10 Quick Tips To Keep Mom's Organized
As a Mom, any quick tip that can save any time/energy/sanity is well worth it! Here are 10 little ways to stay organized and keep yourself ahead of the game:
1. Pack your bag the night before!
Making a quick checklist of what you need, either for yourself or your child(ren), in a diaper bag can save crazy, stressful moments in the morning. Especially before you’ve had your coffee! If your children are older, following the same method is always a good idea! Making sure they have all the necessities in their backpack, and even prepping their lunch for the following day all save precious moments in the marathon that is getting out the door everyday!
2. Lay out your outfit for the following day!
This is definitely along the same lines as the previous tip. Taking the time to choose your outfit, from head to toe, can save you so much time and agony in the morning! Go the extra step, and choose your outfits for the entire week on Sunday!
3. Designated spot for important documents!
Keeping important document for yourself, as well as your children, is a complete necessity. Passports, social security cards, banking info, physicals, immunization records...the list goes on. Passports, birth certificates and social security cards are best in a safe, or locked in a file cabinet. Important records can be filed by family member and kept in a plastic filing bin, filing cabinets, or even an accordion folder, with labels of course!
4. Meal Planning!
“What’s for dinner?” Oh man. That question can strike fear in any mom. A toddler with a curated palette (chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, you get where I am going with this) can result in cooking more than one dinner, and haphazardly throwing together a meal. Planning ahead truly saves, time, money, and you’ll be able to answer that previously dreaded question with ease and confidence!
5. Having an Emergency Kit in your car!
As a mother, you are like a swiss army knife! You are equipped to handle almost any situation. We are problem solvers! When it comes to being on the go, being prepared can make all the difference. Having a small container in your trunk or backseat with: snacks, baby wipes, spare diapers/swimmies/pull-ups, spare clothes, grocery/trash bags, a towel, seasonal items, along with a mini first aid kit(band aids, ointments, etc.) can cover almost any disaster life, or your kids, throw at you!
6. Spare snacks and waters for yourself!
Modern moms are perpetually on-the-go. Don’t forget to refuel! Spare water bottles in your diaper bag, or even in the car, along with a quick snack to keep you energized! I love Clif bars, almonds, and Belvita bars.
Beyond your own busy schedule, incorporating your children’s, or even your partner’s schedule can be a complete headache! If you like writing things down, I love my Day Designer. I picked it up at Target before the school year. On my phone, the google Calendar app is great. Super intuitive, and you can easily share your schedule with those who need to see it!
8. Write it down!
I can remember something I have to do, and no less than two minutes later, it will slip my mind. So, in the moment, I write it down either in my planner/notepad, or in a running to-do list note on my phone.
9. Do laundry...everyday!
Beyond schoolwork, dishes, and whatever else seems to be stacking up...laundry is seemingly endless. Stay ahead of the curve and save yourself, “Hey, where’s my shirt? I need my uniform!” Throw it in while your first coffee is brewing, and you’ll be able to flip it before you leave the house in the morning.
10. Just say “no.”
This is something I think a lot of mothers struggle with. Saying no. No to all the extra stuff to bog down your schedule and take on even more responsibility, and always feeling the need to come up with an excuse. Just say no! Always remember to take time for yourself to unwind, relax, and connect with yourself, your friends, and family.
